Members of the Hawkins Team recently visited our clients at Country Club Lima Hotel and Delfin Amazon Cruises in Peru. Keep reading for some insights into our South American adventures, and maybe get some inspiration for your upcoming travels!
Located in one of the liveliest cities in Peru, Country Club Lima Hotel has long been a favorite of the region’s high society and celebrities. Situated in the prestigious residential area of San Isidro, the Grand Dame hotel was built in 1927 and boasts 70 rooms and 13 suites decorated in a mix of classical and Peruvian artworks. Fun fact: Ed Sheeran stayed at Country Club Lima Hotels earlier this year!
The hotel has entered a new phase in its storied history: a remodel that emphasizes the classic architecture while highlighting a new, contemporary design tailored to the needs of the modern traveler. The result perfectly unifies the glamour of the past with the promise of the future, making Country Club Lima Hotel “The New Classic.”
Celebrated for its innovative style, creative flavors, and sophisticated ambiance, the hotel is an art enthusiast’s dream, effortlessly blending history with modern touches throughout the guestrooms, lobby, and dining areas, boasting an impressive collection of 400 pieces of art and colonial furniture on loan from the Pedro de Osma Museum.
Join the hotel’s award-winning culinary team for a deep-dive into the art of ceviche. One of Peru’s most exquisite dishes, only fish caught earlier that morning is used to create the classic Peruvian dish. Afterwards, head to The English Bar — the hotel’s nod to the British Viceroys who used to frequent the hotel — for a Pisco Tasting to experience Lima’s famed cocktail, the Pisco Sour. We definitely enjoyed our pisco sour making class with the team from Perroquet Restaurant, Country Club Lima Hotel’s on-site restaurant, a five-time winner of the Summum Prize.
After departing Country Club Lima Hotel, we were greeted with welcome treats from Delfin Amazon Cruises to enjoy while we waited to board their newest vessel, Delfin III.
Setting sail, Delfin III offers guests an immersive rainforest experience while simultaneously treating them to the highest levels of luxury. This brand new vessel is also the largest in Delfin’s fleet, with a maximum capacity of 43 passengers. The ship has been beautifully finished with the finest finishes, including hardwood floors, designer furniture, and handmade Peruvian artifacts. The top deck features a beautiful indoor and outdoor lounge, a sun deck with plunge pool, a spa, a gym, and the bar, of course!
Walking the Fundo Casual jungle trail will take you deep into the rainforest on “Terra Firma” (non-flooded forest), where your knowledgable guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon.
Be sure to stay on the lookout for surprises along the way — we were lucky enough to see baby anacondas, poison dart tree frogs, boa constrictors, sloths, butterflies, and more!
Guests can also embark on an adventure to find the giant Amazonian water lilies called “Victoria’s Amazonicas.” This beautiful flower grows in small lagoons, swamps, and cochas (small creeks), a truly amazing site.
Delfin’s skiffs skim the Samiria River and its tributaries, where an abundance of wildlife hides deep in the rainforest. Delfin’s expert-eyed naturalists pinpoint all the biodiversity of this beautiful region, pointing out macaws, scarlet macaws, toucans, umbrella birds, monkeys, and river otters, capybaras, and more, providing enjoyable expeditions during the day, in the evening, and even at night.
So, if you find yourself South America bound, or just find yourself with a severe case of wanderlust, you can’t go wrong with a luxurious, life-changing adventure to Peru!
