This year is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, and while outdoor activities aren’t possible this year, brands are getting creative when it comes to spreading awareness around protecting this planet we call home. Our Hawkins International team has rounded up some of our favorite virtual activities that you can participate in from the comfort of your living room.
Adventure Anywhere
Our friends down in Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida have launched an online content hub called Adventure Anywhere, which features weekly adventure itineraries. This week, the theme is Protecting Our Environment, and activities include creating bottle cap fish art, storytime with the Director of the Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program and learning how to compost. Until we can safely travel to Florida again, this is the next best thing.
#MontageAtHome
Through the #MontageAtHome virtual content series, young travelers can experience Earth Day from home. To partake, families can download a Montage Merits At-Home Edition which includes tasks like spotting a bird or planting an herb. Earn Rainbow Status (and receive a Rainbow Status badge from Montage Palmetto Bluff the next time the family visits) by completing all of the Montage Merits Activity Guide, At-Home Edition.
NASA’s #EarthDayAtHome
For something a bit more “out of this world,” NASA has developed an Earth Day at Home toolkit, which includes activities that help us appreciate the wondrous beauty of our planet. Activities include a webquest, allowing kids to see how NASA helps study and protect the land, air, water and ice, a map real coral reefs exercise and a terrestrial tournament. There are also videos and reading materials from NASA astronauts and spokespeople.
So whether you choose to spend the day in your garden or opt for an evening watching Planet Earth on the couch, there are endless ways to virtually honor Earth Day this year. If you participate in a virtual activity this year, be sure to tag us at @HIPR so that we can join in the fun.
